Strengthening Connections: Bringing Jamaican Stories to the American Synagogue
The first Jews arrived in Jamaica in 1530 and the first Jewish synagogue in the Americas was built in Port Royal, Jamaica in 1646. Since the mid-16th century, the bond between the Jewish people and the Jamaican community has been strong. This connection has facilitated meaningful and forward-looking contributions to the weft and warp of the culture. The Jamaican motto, out of many, one people, appropriately describes this synergy. Come enjoy some of the literary fruits of this national mosaic, exploring strong themes of generational relationships and youthful heroism.
Along with novelist Andrene, her author friends, we will welcome special guest, Dr. Julius Garvey, son of civil rights icon Marcus Mosiah Garvey.
Author Presentation from 1 – 2 (zoomed simultaneously)
