SinaiFree Film Society Discussion of "Streit's: Matzo and the American Dream"

17 Apr @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

The SinaiFree Film Society will discuss “Streit’s: Matzo and the American Dream.”

This 2015 documentary will usher in Passover with the story of the last family-owned matzo bakery in America. For 90 years, Streit’s occupied four tenement buildings on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, bringing together the diverse Jewish immigrant community. While their competitors modernized, Streit’s remained a piece of living history, churning out 40 percent of the nation’s unleavened bread on machinery as old as the factory itself. The current generation of family members struggled to keep the business alive in a neighborhood undergoing massive change.

The film can be streamed for free on Kanopy and Amazon Prime; for free, with ads, on Vudu and Tubi; and on Ovid.TV and Chai Flicks (both require subscriptions). It can be rented for $2.99 from Vudu, and $3.99 from Amazon, Apple TV, Google Play and YouTube.
