SinaiFree Film Society Discussion - "Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song"
01 Nov @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
The SinaiFree Film Society will discuss “Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song.”
Rabbi Barzilai’s High Holiday sermons drawing on the life, songs and spirituality of Leonard Cohen inspired many of us to want to know more about the Jewish Canadian singer-songwriter. This documentary looks at Cohen through the prism of his renowned “Hallelujah.” A hymn, an anthem, a prayer, it is a song for our times; as Cohen said, “This world is full of conflicts and full of things that cannot be reconciled. But there are moments when we can reconcile and embrace the whole mess, and that’s what I mean by ‘Hallelujah.’” Released in 2022, the film was approved for production by Cohen just before his 80th birthday in 2014. It accesses a wealth of never-before-seen archival materials from the Cohen Trust including Cohen’s notebooks, journals and photographs, performance footage, and rare audio recordings and interviews.
This film can be streamed on Netflix. It can be rented for $3.59 from Amazon, and $3.99 from Apple TV, Google Play, YouTube, Vudu and DirecTV. There are six DVDs in the Westchester Library System, and 10 in the New York Public Library.
