SinaiFree Film Society Discussion of "Exodus"
22 Jan @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
The SinaiFree Film Society will discuss “Exodus.”
Based on the Leon Uris novel, “Exodus” is an epic tale about the creation of the state of Israel. Ari Ben Canaan (Paul Newman), a member of the paramilitary group Haganah, attempts to transport 600 Jewish refugees from Cyprus to Palestine on a ship named the Exodus. He faces obstruction from British forces, who will not grant the ship passage. In addition to Newman, the all-star cast includes Eva Marie Saint, Ralph Richardson, Peter Lawford, Sal Mineo, Jill Haworth, Lee J. Cobb and David Opatoshu. The sprawling narrative is underscored by the Academy Award-winning music of Ernest Gold. The screenplay is by Hollywood black-listed writer Dalton Trumbo, who was hired openly by producer/director Otto Preminger.
The film can be streamed for free on Hoopla; free on The Roku Channel and Pluto TV (both with ads); and free on Tubi (after creating an account). It can be streamed on AppleTV+ (subscription); and rented for $3.89 from Amazon Prime, and $3.99 from AppleTV, Fandango at Home and Spectrum. There are nine DVDs in the Westchester Library System and four in the New York Public Library.
