SinaiFree Film Society Discussion, "A.K.A. Doc Pomus"
21 Feb @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
The SinaiFree Film Society will discuss “A.K.A. Doc Pomus.”
This documentary tells the tale of Doc Pomus, the unlikeliest of rock and roll icons. Brooklyn-born Jerome Felder, paralyzed with polio as a child, reinvented himself first as a blues singer, renaming himself Doc Pomus, then emerged as one of the most brilliant songwriters of the early rock era. He wrote a thousand songs, and his dozens of hits include “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “This Magic Moment,” “A Teenager in Love,” “Young Blood” and “Viva Las Vegas.” In his later years, Doc was a mentor to generations of younger songwriters, and a fierce advocate for downtrodden rhythm and blues musicians. Doc’s was a life of disability and possibility, tragedy and romance, and some of the greatest music ever recorded.
