Special Sacred Gathering with Rabbi Barzilai
Monday, January 17 @3:00pm-4:30pm
What Can We Learn From The Intersection of These Events
This year the secular holiday of Martin Luther King Day and the Jewish Holiday of Tu B’Shevat (The Jewish New Year of the Trees) both occur Monday January 17, 2022. In addition, we are all reeling from the Texas Hostage incident at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville.
Join us for a special Sacred Gathering with Rabbi Barzilai as he will teach about the themes of these holidays and what lessons they share. Rabbi Barzilai will then lead a discussion and give an opportunity for each of us to reflect and share on this weekend’s hostage incident in Texas.
“This weekend we are commemorating the life and dreams of Martin Luther King, Jr., and focusing on striving to create a better world of justice and peace. However, it can be hard to pray for peace at a time like this when we are scared and angry. Yet doing so can help us stay centered and grounded in our highest Jewish values. And we must continue not only to pray for lasting peace, but to also work toward building a world where Jews can gather and pray safely, and where we work with good people of all faiths and traditions to build a world of peace and tolerance.”
